Dull weather abounds. But light relief is provided by some very interested animals on a trundle around Hightown Common near Ringwood.
A very inquisitive New Forest Pony follows me away from the car park. This has honestly never happened to me before, everytime I stopped, she stopped to wait for me. As soon as I moved on, she moved along with me, never getting ahead, always just beside.
Her little herd of four mares follow on, obviously wondering what on earth their chum is thinking of. They too, stop and go along with us, but at a distance.
Evenutally, they decide that she has obviously lost her marbles, overtake me and head off along the path in front. My new friend is impelled to follow them eventually and I lose my walking mate. She must have kept with me for a few hundred yards. Amazing!
Somewhere behind the thick blanket of cloud, the sun is setting and a pink glow suffuses the clouds.
In the other direction towards Smugglers Road, all is very flat and gloomy.
In the woods, a few fallow deer watch me silently. I seem to be the subject of interest this afternoon!
Another inquisitive pony falls in behind me. For a moment, I can’t believe it, but her intentions are quite different and she takes a different fork of the path without approaching. See, even little walks in uninteresting weather can have their highlights.
